Writing Your Dispute Letters

The three addresses where you need to mail your disputes are:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: YOU MUST SEND A SEPARATE CERTIFIED LETTER/RETURN RECEIPT TO EACH CREDIT REPORTING AGENCY LISTED ABOVE AND ATTACH A COPY OF THE RELEVEANT DOCUMENTS IN EACH LETTER. [These addresses are for Floridians only]

YOUR DISPUTE LETTER SHOULD INCLUDE

  1. Include Your Full Legal Name
  2. Include SSI Number
  3. Include copy of Drivers License or other picture ID.

FOUR IMPORTANT POINTS:

  1. Remember to date the letter.
  2. Remember to sign the letter.
  3. Your address should match the Picture Identification. If it doesn't, you can include a current utility bill reflecting the change of address.
  4. ALWAYS send your letters Certified Mail/Return Receipt, using a "Green Card" -- USPS cost is currently $4.64 for a regular letter. Keep all of the "green cards" or return receipts, their responses, new credit reports and the envelopes.

WHAT TO WRITE -- SAMPLES

1. INACCURATE INFORMATION.

To whom it may concern: "I am sending you a request to investigate the following errors on my credit report (I never paid late) (Not my account) I have enclosed as identification my FL lD Card. Please respond to my request in writing."

2. IDENTITY THEFT.

Dear Sir or Madam: "I believe I may have been the victim of identity theft. I never opened an account with "XYZ" Please provide me a copy of all information, including a copy of the signed contract, bills, and payments concerning Account "XYZ". If not, I ask that you delete this information.... I have enclosed as identification my FL driver's license. I expect a written response."

3. BANKRUPTCY.

Dear Sir or Madam: "I recently filed for bankruptcy. I am sending you a copy of all of the court documents, including the list of creditors, and ask that you update my credit reports. Please send me an updated credit report as soon as possible."
